100% Chardonnay

Chardonnay is the most established variety in the Orange region and is noted for its bright elegant styles. It is well suited to the varying altitudes and conditions. Koomooloo vineyard has produced some outstanding chardonnay over many years. Fruit for the Architect comes from vines planted in 1995. The blocks have a southerly aspect and are very cool. Vertically trained vines are grown in red, rocky soil, free-draining and deep; ideal for this variety. 2009 delivered a cool classic winter. Buds started bursting in late September with good rains through November and December - An appreciated return to good seasonal patterns. The grapes were picked in the early morning and then carefully sorted so that only whole clean berries were included. Once pressed, the juice was allowed to settle for 12 hours before racking off lees to another tank. Fermentation occurred at a moderate temperature, taking about 20 days to complete. The wine remained on lees for four months with regular stirring to build palate texture.

Tasting Note
Bright light straw in colour with intense lime green hues. A good amount of time and stirring of lees has imparted just the right amount of complexity to support the fruit - Bright yet subtle varietal fruit. The wine is not overtly fruity, its time on leesand in old barrels has given a more subtle elegant fruit character. Excellent texture.

Serving Suggestions
Delicious served on its own, or alternatively with roasted or grilled poultry, richer oily fish dishes or tomato based pasta sauces. Served now and cellaring for 4 years.
